Our verdict

The Streakfly 2 is Nike's short-distance specialist: a featherweight carbon racing shoe built to fly over 5K and 10K, not to baby your legs through a marathon. At 165g it is one of the lightest plated road racers you can buy, and that shows the moment you lift the pace. This is the rare super-shoe that stays nimble and low to the ground, so it turns and accelerates like a racing flat while still giving you the carbon snap you expect from a modern running shoe. Compared with the Vaporfly 4, which is built for the full and half, the Streakfly trades stack and long-haul cushioning for speed, agility and a more connected feel for the road. We rate it highly for parkrun PBs, track 5Ks and sharp interval sessions. At 170 pounds RRP it is a focused tool, and we would buy it knowing exactly what it is for.

Extra information

Fit & sizing

The Streakfly 2 fits true to size for most runners, so order your usual Nike racing size and you should be set. The fit is a race-day fit: snug through the midfoot and heel to lock you in when you are moving fast, with a toe box that is moderate rather than roomy. If you have a wider foot or like a little wiggle room up front, this will feel on the narrow side and you may want to go up a half size. The thin, breathable upper wraps close and holds the foot well through hard cornering, which is exactly what you want from a 5K shoe. Heel hold is secure with a light, low-bulk collar. We would not size up just for longer runs, since this is not a long-run shoe anyway. For a roomier-feeling speed option, the adidas Adizero EVO SL is worth a look.

Performance breakdown

Ride & feel

This is where the Streakfly 2 earns its keep. The ride is fast, firm and reactive, with a real sense of ground feel that most stacked super-shoes lose. You sit low and connected, so quick turnover feels natural and changes of pace are instant. Hold race pace and it comes alive. The carbon plate adds genuine snap through toe-off without the rolling, tippy sensation of a tall marathon racer, which makes it far easier to control at 5K and 10K effort. It is happiest when you are pushing. Jog along easy and the ride feels flat and a touch unforgiving, because it simply is not built for that. Drop into rep pace and it rewards you with a light, propulsive, eager ride that begs you to go.

Cushioning

Cushioning is moderate and firm by super-shoe standards, which is the whole point of a short-distance racer. The 4mm drop and lower-slung build keep you close to the road, so you get protection enough to race hard over 5K and 10K without the soft, sink-in feel of a maximalist marathon shoe. Over those shorter distances your legs stay fresh and the firmness translates directly into responsiveness. Push past a half marathon and the lack of plush stack starts to tell, with more road coming through underfoot as the miles add up. If you want a cushioned shoe that carries you through 26.2, this is not it. For its intended 5K-to-10K range, the cushioning is judged just right: protective, firm and quick.

Stability

The Streakfly 2 is a neutral racing shoe, so it offers no medial posting or structured support, and you should treat it as such. What helps is its low-to-the-ground build: sitting closer to the road than a tall marathon super-shoe, it feels more planted and less tippy through fast corners and quick direction changes. That makes it surprisingly controllable at speed for a carbon racer. It is not, however, a shoe for runners who need correction. If you overpronate or want guidance built in, this is the wrong tool. Within its lane, for an efficient, neutral runner racing short and fast, the platform feels stable and confidence-inspiring where it counts.

Upper & comfort

The upper is thin, light and built for speed rather than pampering. A breathable engineered mesh keeps weight down and lets your foot vent on hot, hard efforts, and the close wrap locks you in for racing. Comfort is good for the short, sharp sessions this shoe is made for, though the minimal, race-focused construction means there is little plush padding to fall back on over long miles. Lacing is secure and the tongue is thin to save weight. We would happily race a 10K in it sockless-light socks and not think about the upper, which is the highest compliment a race upper can get. Just do not expect daily-trainer cushioning around the collar.

Common questions

FAQ

Yes, for most runners it fits true to size, so order your usual Nike racing size. The fit is snug and race-focused through the midfoot and heel, with a moderate rather than roomy toe box. If you have wider feet or want a little extra room up front, consider going up a half size, but most runners will be happy with their normal size. It is not a shoe you need to size up just for longer runs.

Not really. The Streakfly 2 is built for 5K and 10K, where its light weight and firm, reactive ride shine. It deliberately runs lower and firmer than a marathon super-shoe, so over 26.2 miles the lack of stack and plush cushioning will catch up with your legs. For the half and full marathon we would pick the more cushioned Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 or a taller carbon racer instead, and save the Streakfly for short, sharp efforts.

It can be, with caveats. New runners who want a fast, fun shoe for parkrun or short races will enjoy how light and lively it feels. But it is a firm, neutral racer with little cushioning, so it is not the shoe for easy mileage, recovery runs or building base fitness. If you are just starting out and want one versatile shoe, a cushioned daily trainer makes more sense, and you can add the Streakfly later as a dedicated race-day option.

They are built for different jobs. The Vaporfly is Nike's marathon and half-marathon racer, with a taller stack and softer, long-haul cushioning. The Streakfly 2 is lighter, lower and firmer, tuned for 5K and 10K where agility and quick turnover matter more than mile-after-mile plushness. If most of your racing is short and fast, the Streakfly is the sharper tool. If you race longer, the Vaporfly will treat your legs better.

For a race shoe it holds up reasonably, but like all lightweight carbon racers it is not built for heavy daily mileage. The thin upper and race-focused outsole are optimised for speed and low weight, not longevity. Treat it as a dedicated racing and fast-session shoe rather than an everyday trainer and the outsole will last you plenty of parkruns and 10Ks. Rotating it with a cushioned daily trainer is the best way to make it last.

At 170 pounds RRP it is a focused, single-purpose shoe, so the value depends on how much you race short. If you regularly run 5Ks, 10Ks and parkruns and want a featherweight carbon racer that feels genuinely fast, it earns its place. If you want one shoe to do everything from easy miles to the marathon, your money is better spent elsewhere. Watch for a discount, as plated racers often drop below RRP once newer models land.
