The Cascadia 19 is Brooks at its most dependable: a rugged, do-it-all trail running shoe built to soak up miles on rough ground rather than chase segments. It is the workhorse of the range, and at 312g it is not light, but that weight buys you protection, grip and a shoe you can trust when the trail turns technical. The 6mm drop and generously cushioned midsole make it an easy shoe to run on for hours, whether that is a muddy loop after work or a full day on the hills. This is not a racer and it does not pretend to be. If you want speed and pop, the Brooks Catamount 3 is the faster stablemate. But for reliable, planted, go-anywhere trail miles at a fair price, the Cascadia 19 is one of the safest picks in its class.
The Cascadia 19 fits true to size for most runners, so order your usual trail or road number and you will be in the right place. The midfoot wraps securely, which is exactly what you want when you are hopping between rocks and roots, and the heel locks down cleanly with no slip on descents. The toe box is medium width: roomy enough for toes to splay and swell over a long run, but not as wide as an Altra. If you have genuinely broad feet or want maximum toe room, a roomier last like the Altra Lone Peak 9 may suit you better. We would keep the Cascadia at true size rather than sizing up, since the secure midfoot depends on that fit. Trail socks are fine; just try them on with whatever you actually run in.
The Cascadia 19 rides planted and sure-footed rather than springy. There is enough cushioning underfoot to take the sting out of hard-packed trails and rocky ground, but the shoe stays stable and predictable instead of feeling soft or wobbly. You sit low and connected to the trail, which pays off when the footing gets technical and you need to trust each step. It is not a fast or lively ride, and you will feel the 312g on quicker efforts. What you get instead is composure. Over two, three or four hours the Cascadia stays calm underfoot, and that steadiness is worth more than pop when you are deep into a long day.
Cushioning is moderate and honest. There is a solid, protective layer of foam that dulls sharp rocks and long descents without turning the ride mushy or vague. It leans firmer than a max-stack shoe, so you keep good ground feel and control on uneven terrain, but there is still enough underfoot to keep your legs fresher on long runs than a minimal shoe would. Heel strikers and midfoot runners are both well served by the 6mm drop. If you want a plush, pillowy trail ride for very long ultra days, a taller-stack shoe will feel softer, but for a versatile daily trail shoe the Cascadia strikes a sensible balance between protection and feedback.
This is a neutral shoe, so there is no medial post or dedicated support structure, but the Cascadia 19 feels notably stable for one. The low-slung midsole, wide platform and secure midfoot work together to keep you grounded and steady, even when the trail is off-camber or loose. Brooks has long tuned the Cascadia for this planted, no-drama feel, and it shows. Mild overpronators often get on well with it thanks to that broad, supportive base, though runners who need genuine motion control should look at a dedicated stability shoe. For most trail runners the Cascadia offers reassuring stability without ever feeling stiff or corrective.

The upper is built for the trail rather than for looks: hard-wearing, protective and comfortable straight out of the box. There is a reinforced toe bumper and enough structure to shrug off rocks and roots, while the tongue and collar are padded enough for long days without hotspots. Breathability is reasonable for a rugged trail upper, though a burlier build like this will never be as airy as a road shoe on hot days. Lockdown is good, the laces stay put, and there is enough gusseting to keep grit out. It is a practical, durable upper that should outlast the outsole, which is exactly what you want from a shoe like this.
