Our verdict
The Adizero Adios Pro 4 is adidas at its most focused: a carbon marathon racer built to chase a personal best and little else. At 188g it is light for a shoe with this much stack, and the EnergyRods give it a firm, forward-tipping snap that wants you up on your toes and moving. Pair that with a high, responsive midsole and you get a ride that protects your legs deep into a race while still feeling fast. It is happiest on smooth tarmac at marathon and half pace, where a quick, efficient cadence unlocks the best of it. This is not a do-everything trainer, and it does not pretend to be. If you want one shoe for easy miles and race day, look elsewhere. But if you are after a sharp, single-minded racer for the days that count, the Adios Pro 4 is one of the best around.
If you want a lighter, softer ride for the same job, the Nike Vaporfly 4 is the obvious rival.

Fit & sizing
The Adios Pro 4 comes up true to size for most runners, so your usual adidas race size should be spot on. The fit is snug and performance-minded, the way a racer should be. You get a locked-in midfoot and a secure heel that stays put when you push the pace, with just enough room up front for the foot swelling that comes over a marathon. The upper is thin and built to disappear on your foot rather than coddle it, so do not expect a plush, roomy feel. If you have wider feet or you like a little wiggle room, the moderate toe box may feel tight, and a half size up is worth a try. For a precise race fit, stick to your standard size and lace it firm. If you are between sizes and plan to race long, lean to the larger of the two. If you want a slightly roomier race fit, the Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 is worth a look.
Performance breakdown
Ride & feel
On the run the Adios Pro 4 feels firm, fast and unmistakably race-day. The EnergyRods and tall stack work together to roll you onto your toes and keep you turning over, so it rewards a quick, light cadence rather than a heavy heel strike. There is real protection underfoot, which you will be grateful for in the closing miles of a marathon, but it never goes soft or vague. Hold race pace and it comes alive. Drop to an easy jog and it can feel stiff and a touch demanding. This is a shoe that wants to go fast, and it lets you know it.
Cushioning
Despite the firm feel, there is plenty of foam here doing quiet work. The high midsole soaks up impact lap after lap, so your legs tend to hold up better over 26.2 miles than the racy ride might suggest. It is protective without being plush, the kind of cushioning that keeps you fresh for a strong finish rather than wrapping your foot in softness. If you are used to a soft daily trainer, the Adios Pro 4 will feel noticeably firmer at first. Trust it over distance, though, and you will likely finish with more in the tank than you expect.
Stability
Make no mistake, this is a neutral racer tuned for speed, not a stability shoe. The stack is tall and the platform is built for efficient, forward-rolling turnover, so it does its best work under a fairly neutral, efficient stride. If you are a confident, mechanically sound runner you will feel quick and planted. If you tend to overpronate or you want guidance from your shoe, this is not where you will find it, because there is no medial post or corrective structure. Save it for the days you want to race light and fast, and lean on a more supportive trainer for everything else.
Upper & comfort
The upper is pure race kit: a thin, breathable mesh that keeps weight down and lets your foot breathe when the pace and the temperature climb. It wraps close and holds you securely without much padding, so it feels barely there in the best way. Do not expect the soft, cosseting comfort of a daily trainer, because that is not the job here. Over a marathon it stays cool and dries quickly, and the lockdown holds from gun to tape. For race day it is just what you want. For long, easy miles it can feel a little spartan.

Fast Shoe Super Light
The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 is a proper fast shoe, super light, bouncy, and great when you pick up the pace. It feels really responsive thanks to the carbon rods, though a bit firm for easy runs. Perfect for race day or speed sessions, just not your everyday cruiser.
